FUNNtastic Spring camp
the camp sessions & activities takes the attendees on a journey from novice artist to ‘mangaka’ – a professional in the art of creating manga, which is a genre of comic books and graphic novels originating in Japan and immensely popular across the world. Participants will develop expert-level manga techniques using iPads and drawing tablets, which they are required to bring to the workshop.
The hands-on sessions will delve into the process of creating artworks in the most widely used manga styles, including the chibi style, in which characters are drawn with small, chubby bodies and enlarged eyes to give them an endearing, child-like appearance. The aim of the workshop series is to offer participants a solid understanding of the basics of drawing manga, and assist them with creating a portfolio of their own manga artworks.
Working on Procreate, a specialist graphics editor application for iPad, the young artists will engage in practical activities demonstrating various tricks of the trade, such as composing sketches to use as rough guidelines for a full drawing and correctly reproducing the style of a reference piece. The workshops will also present an opportunity for participants to create fanart of their favourite anime characters and even design original characters from start to finish, while receiving advice on improving their craft.
At the end of each day, the participant who shows the best grasp of the workshop directions in their artwork will be awarded an exciting prize from UAE Anime Store.
