Our old house

Learn more about the life of one of the most prominent pearl merchants in the past and the urban heritage of the UAE.

The late Obaid Al Naboodah, may his soul rest in peace, was a well-known pearl merchant in Sharjah. He left his special imprint that is still remembered in the community and through the walls of his house and mosque. We will discover more about his life from one of his family members, Mr. Omar Mohammed Al Naboodah, Head of the Fixed Protection Department of the Emiri Guard General Directorate. Engineer Ahmed Mahmood, Deputy Chairman of the Architectural Heritage Society U.A.E, will also present the importance of urban heritage and heritage buildings in the UAE through “Our Old House” dialogue session, at Bait Al Naboodah on 2nd April 2021.

The aim of the session is to shed the light on the life of Obaid bin Issa, one of the most prominent pearl merchants of the nineteenth century, and on his humanitarian attitudes and the reflection of his wealth in the design of his house, which is considered one of the most beautiful traditional coastal houses with a unique architectural heritage character
